"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up"-Pablo Picasso
Art is defined as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.
Theorists will say that art encourages brain development, improves fine motor skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Teachers will say that art develops confidence, language, physical and thinking skills
Therapists will say that art allows children to process their world, to deal with sometimes scary emotions in a safe way.
Kids tell us that art is fun, an activity they enjoy.
Art is more than just a painting or drawing, it encompasses all the creative, imaginative and dramatic endeavours. Art is a process. The process of art is what it is all about. When kids make art-be it a paddle pop stick house, an interpretive dance, an improvised scene, a poem or a fridge worthy painting- they imagine, they problem solve, they communicate and they connect. They connect with the world around them, their audience, their peers and themselves.
I strive to find the way the creative child wants to connect, to give them the skills and techniques to do it effectively and to foster in them a love of creative pursuits that will last a lifetime. I work on scheduling art and craft projects that kids enjoy, succeed at, are challenged by and are proud to show off when they get home.
I was the creative kid who found my voice through drama. My background is very youth drama centred, as a performer, tutor, director, playwright, and designer. My work in youth theatre began the development in the visual arts, learning skills as required to produce sets, makeup designs, props and costumes. Makeup design led me to face painting and my first business as a children’s entertainer. I am still finding my niche in the visual arts and enjoying the process of trying new things. recently water colours, felting and macrame,
In my spare time I volunteer as a puppy foster carer.
